Red Lipstick and Clean Underwear. A painfully humorous survival guide to successfully navigating life as a woman. This insightful book takes a humorous but accurate look at how women (baby boomers, plus those a few years this side of that generation) were taught to view and prepare for life as young girls, vs. the reality of being a woman and handling all that women do, every day, day in and day out. As adults, moms, wives, sisters, friends, lovers and professionals, we are expected to handle, juggle, balance, earn, nurture and be always-on-call caregivers.

This was a very good book which will appeal to all women of different ages. The title makes you think of more humorous than it is. As a reader over 65 years old I remember passages, men are from Mars and women are from venus and many humorous books about mamas. This book touches all of these. It also gives possible insight of younger and older women in today's world. I particularly liked the list of famous women in the chapters according to ages.

The book is a difinite read. When I was reading, I could see myself through the years through the author's words. There was some saying and advice that I had not heard but did not surprise me. The book was like a conversation(s) that you would have with a close friend, talking about- Why did we do that? I really enjoyed the book.

This book was definitely a walk down memory lane. I realize that no matter where you grew up, north, south, east or west the stories told by our mothers were basically the same. Such a wonderful time. Also I remembered the times with my girlfriends and our great talks about everything under the sun. Some things were true and others we found out later were not so true. While reading this book, it felt like the author, Carole Townsend was there in my living room just chatting away with me.

Townsend has done it again. Red Lipstick and Clean Underwear is a light, funny read about `advice for girls' that freely passes down through generations. I laughed out loud as she described her experience with bra shopping and thongs. It was a delightful trip down memory lane to recall the same conversations with my mother...the do's and don'ts, if you will. Today's modern woman might not have finding the `right' husband on the top of their priority list (as it was in for our ancestors) - but the advice of clean underwear lives on...
